Biography |
|
Terence Lambert, born in 1951, was fortunate in being brought up in the heart of the Surrey countryside. As a child he roamed this area, and with the observant eye of the future artist that he was to become, he absorbed the behaviour and pattern of the wildlife that he encountered. Terence trained at the Guildford School of Art. An important lesson that he gained was the ability to draw with confidence. This Terence feels, is a great liberator allowing the artist’s observation and imagination the freedom to create unique images. Although Terence is possibly best known as a painter and illustrator of birds, he is also highly regarded as a painter of European wildlife. Mindful of the artistic restriction working solely as an illustrator he creates paintings that are more than just accurately crafted but capture the personality of the subject. The pictures of fishing scenes take the viewer straight to the riverbank where the flow of water, the movement of weed with a fish lying to the edge of an eddy are accurate in texture, form and scale. Lambert has been commissioned by numerous publishers to illustrate books along with specific projects such as working with the World Pheasant Association and the Shell Oil Company. These paintings, commissioned by Shell, were given as a gift to the Sultan of Oman. |
