Biography
Born in 1956, Owen Williams has held a life long passion for fishing. Spending his childhood years growing up on a hill farm in west Wales, his first fishing experiences were of catching eels in a pond on the farm.   Coming from an artistic family he was encouraged to paint the wildlife he saw on his many trips out with both rod and gun. He is self taught and in 1985 he moved back home to Wales to become a fulltime artist. Over the previous two decades Owen has established a reputation as one of our leading wildlife and sporting artists with his work much sought after within the UK and overseas. In 2003, Owen was honoured by a commission from the Royal Household to paint a picture for Prince William’s 21st birthday. The long hours of fishing, provides the artist with ample time to absorb the atmosphere of a particular piece of water. From the surrounding landscape, through the minutia of pebbles, lichens and moss to the mysteries of the underwater landscape this is a contemplative process and a fertile source of inspiration.  This, in common with so many artists, has been the starting point for so many of Owen’s fishing pictures.
